The backup quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs is now an experienced player.

According to someone with knowledge of the negotiations, veteran quarterback Carson Wentz will sign a one-year contract with the Chiefs, USA TODAY Sports has learned. They aren’t allowed to reveal the deal, so they spoke under the condition of anonymity.

After two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, Wentz is expected to be Kansas City’s top backup quarterback.

Wentz’s fifth team in as many seasons is the Chiefs.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Wentz with the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Before rupturing his ACL, he led the Eagles during the regular season for five years during his playing career in Philadelphia and was chosen for the Pro Bowl in 2017.
