The Memphis Showboats had a successful offseason and now have a new quarterback and an abundance of offensive weapons. To reduce the roster to 58 players, however, that forced some difficult choices to be made on Sunday, as 17 individuals were dismissed.

The following players were chosen by the Memphis Showboats to be cut:

OT DE Clayton Bradley CB Jordan Brailford Antoine Brooks
OLB Daniels Kahzin WR Derrick Dillon Original Kirk Kelley
OLB Kolin Hill Original Tyran Hunt
OT Darta Lee CB Most Likely LB Dylan Moses
DS Antonio Reed, a defensive back Steven Michael
DE TheWR Jeremiah Valoaga Vann Josh
OT Sidney Wells RB Kerrith Whyte

Starting with the offensive line, Dillon (WR) and Whyte (RB) were two important skill players who had a significant impact on the Showboats the previous season. With the Tampa Bay Bandits and the Showboats in the USFL, Dillon has dominated the past two seasons. He has five touchdowns and 726 receiving yards, and he also returned a kickoff for a score last year. With 285 rushing yards, Whyte ranked in the top 10 of the USFL and added two touchdowns overall.

The departure of several important players, most notably Kelley, who started eight games for the New Orleans Breakers previous season, hurt the offensive line. Hunt and Bradley, who started for the Showboats previous season, were also waived by Memphis.
