Tennessee’s Memphis The USFL said on Monday that Todd Haley will not be taking over as head coach of the Memphis Showboats.
Haley played in the USFL during the last two years, during the league’s resurgence. He led the Memphis Showboats for a single season, going 5-5 and narrowly missing the postseason.
A statement was published by the USFL.
“The USFL executive committee has chosen to replace Memphis Showboats head coach. We appreciate Todd Haley’s efforts over the past two years in helping players reach their full potential and making the USFL a reality. The hunt for a new head coach to guide the Showboats and maintain Memphis’ professional football momentum has already started.
The USFL and XFL recently declared their intention to unite. The spring seasons were successful for both leagues. Even after the merger, there’s no word on whether or not Showboats will return for a third season.
