Rangers pitcher punches a wall and breaks serious bones.
Pitcher Brock Burke of the Texas Rangers will be out for a while after losing control of his annoyance on Friday night.
After a disappointing performance on Friday, Burke punched a wall out of rage, breaking his hand, according to Rangers commentator Jared Sandler. As a result, he has been put on the IL.
Burke struggled in Friday’s game against the Houston Astros, giving up four runs in two-thirds of an inning on three hits, including a home run. He had a bad effort earlier in the game against the Astros, giving up three singles and a run without getting an out. That must have added to his annoyance. Burke’s performance on Friday made his reaction appear even worse because the Rangers ended up winning the game.
Burke is by no means the first athlete to do this, but it could be detrimental to him. Despite having a 4.37 ERA in 53 games during the previous season, he wasn’t playing well at the beginning of 2024 and could not be assured a job in the bullpen once healed.
