In a Saturday Night Live appearance, Caitlin Clark—who is predicted by the Indiana Fever to be the first pick in Monday’s WNBA draft—deftly made fun of her co-host Michael Che of “Weekend Update” and utilized the opportunity to remind viewers of the numerous women’s basketball stars who came before her and into the league.
Che first made the joke that Clark’s No. 22 would be retired by the University of Iowa and “replaced with an apron.”
Clark now enters.
When Che declared himself to be a fan, Clark asked, “Really, Michael? since I was made aware of your little apron joke. Following that, she offered a plethora of shrewd remarks regarding Che’s previous jokes about women’s basketball, which were featured in a supercut that co-host Colin Jost of “Weekend Update” introduced. After all, since more people watched the NCAA women’s tournament championship games than the men’s, it’s only right to turn the tables.

But it wasn’t all bad. Clark made sure to honor past WNBA stars like “Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Cynthia Cooper, the great Dawn Staley, and my basketball hero, Maya Moore,” just under 48 hours before she starts her professional career. These are the women who forced open the door for me to enter.
But there was one last jab. She approached Che and said, “I brought you a souvenir since you’re such a big fan.” It’s an apron I autographed.
Clark retorted, “You don’t have a girlfriend, Michael,” after Che had pledged to give it to his girlfriend.
And with that, the all-time top scorer in NCAA history demonstrated that she could play in more prestigious venues.
