ANAHEIM, California: The Los Angeles Angels confirmed on Monday that Phil Nevin will not be taking over as manager.
The club concluded the season with a 73-89 record the day before the relocation. Following three disappointing seasons as general manager, Perry Minasian’s future was called into question when the Angels failed to set up an end-of-season news conference with him right after the season finale.

In his first major league managerial position, Nevin went 119-149 and failed to make the postseason in both of his seasons in charge. In the midst of a 14-game losing skid, Joe Maddon was sacked, and he was elevated to Angels manager in June 2022.
After taking a job as Maddon’s third-base coach in November 2021, Nevin became the first native of Orange County to manage the Angels.
Nevin, a former all-star infielder who still plays the game, seemed to be well-liked by his team members. However, the Angels failed to deliver a victory for him; following his takeover in 2022, they finished 46-60, and this season, they have recorded their eighth consecutive losing season.
Nevin, after Buck Showalter of the New York Mets and Gabe Kapler of the San Francisco Giants, was the third manager in Major League Baseball to be fired in four days.
