Due to fake injuries, the former general manager of the New York Mets is suspended for the 2024 season.

SUMMARY Major League Baseball announced on Friday that Billy Eppler, the former general manager of the New York Mets, has been suspended until the end of the 2024 season. The league investigation revealed that Eppler gave the team orders to fabricate injuries and submit false documentation in order to create roster spots.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred stated that Eppler gave the go-ahead for the Mets to “deliberately fabricate injuries” and “contribute associated documentation” in order to acquire “multiple improper injured list replacements” for the 2023 and 2023 seasons.

MLB refused to provide examples of Eppler’s behavior, such as the roster spots he created, and came to the conclusion that Eppler acted independently of the Mets ownership.

Seven or so players were involved in Eppler’s efforts, an Associated Press source familiar with the investigation said.
