“Alex was loved by his friends, family, and supporters from all across the world. Anyone who knows him well would vouch to his tenacity, willpower, and exuberant nature. We respectfully ask that you keep our family in your prayers and thoughts at this trying time. We need privacy while we work through our loss.
Collins, a product of the University of Arkansas, was selected by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. After spending one season with Seattle, he was cut loose, joined the practice squad of the Ravens, and eventually emerged as the team’s starter.
Collins completed the 2017 season with 973 running yards and six touchdowns in his debut season with Baltimore. He started ten games the next season, rushing for 411 yards and seven touchdowns before sustaining a foot injury that ended his season.
He didn’t play in 2019, but in 2020–2021, he made a comeback to the Seahawks for what would be his last season in the NFL.
In his five seasons as an NFL player, Collins gained 1,997 yards and eight touchdowns on 483 carries in addition to 467 receptions yards from 50 career games.
Collins most recently participated in the 2017 season as a player for the Memphis Showboats of the USFL.
Head coach of the Ravens John Harbaugh said in a statement, “Alex was a joy to be around and someone whose light shined brightly.”
“He was an amazing teammate with a positive attitude that touched everyone he came into contact with. I will always remember that about him. In addition, he was a brilliant player who ran with unwavering determination. During his tenure in Baltimore, he made significant contributions to our success. We offer Alex’s family our sincere sympathies and support. May he now rest in the everlasting peace of God.
