 big league player, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 47, according to his agent.

Former wing with the Stars Raymond Sawada, 38, passed away on Monday while participating in a hockey game. His family made the announcement via a Go Fund Me page set up to support and remember him. His spouse, Nicole, and their two children, Victoria, age nine, and Charlotte, age six, survive him.

The Go Fund Me page said, “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of Ray Sawada’s sudden passing.” “Ray passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, in the evening while playing the game he loved, at the age of 38.”

The cause of death was not disclosed to the family. On the other hand, Sawada reportedly experienced heart failure Monday night while participating in a league game for fun. A medical incident at one of Richmond, British Columbia’s rinks that evening was confirmed by the city to the media.

Between 2008 and 2011, Sawada made 11 appearances for the Stars, recording one goal. After participating in 287 AHL games, he announced his retirement in 2016. He went back to his native Richmond to train as a firefighter.

The Go Fund Me Page stated, “Ray was such a bright light in the lives he touched.” He cherished his trips with Nicole, the girls, and his loved ones. He was a committed coach for his girls as well as a gifted hockey player. Ray left a vacuum in the community because he was a highly motivated and determined individual in everything he did.

More than 1,000 donations have brought the fund’s total to $232,055 Canadian dollars as of Wednesday afternoon.
