Rarely are recruitments through the transfer portal a protracted procedure. Head coach of UNC basketball Hubert Davis and his staff have undoubtedly seen that over the past several weeks as they appear to need to keep searching for a big man with the ability to start right away given that Armando Bacot, their previous five-year starter, has used up all of his eligibility.
On social media, some people speculated that Danny Wolf, a sophomore at Yale, would have filled the void left by the Tar Heels. However, the 7-foot, 250-pound player, who was selected for the First Team of the Ivy League and is currently ranked No. 19 overall in the 247Sports transfer rankings for this cycle, announced his commitment to Michigan on Saturday. He was also the league tournament MVP.

A few weeks ago, Wolf entered the transfer site with a “do not contact” designation, according to 247Sports. Still, he personally contacted a minimum of two universities in Michigan and UNC, at first wanting to visit both, though in the end he never planned a trip to Chapel Hill.

After his statement, the only two big guys still in the transfer portal are said to have heard from the Tar Heels but have not yet made their decisions public. They include Rutgers’ Clifford Omoruyi, who has UNC among his 12 finalists but is visiting Georgetown this weekend and is preparing a trip to Alabama, and Tennessee’s Jonas Aidoo, who is currently on a visit with the Bears and appears to be leaning toward Baylor according to the lone 247Sports Crystal Ball.

Danny Wolf ended up selecting a different school, becoming the fourth post presence verified on the 2024 UNC basketball transfer radar. The others were Stanford’s Maxime Raynaud, who withdrew from the portal after opting to stay with the Cardinal, Arizona’s Oumar Ballo, who went to Indiana, and Aaron Bradshaw, of Kentucky, who went to Ohio State.
