Birmingham announces the departure of Mowbray.
Tony Mowbray’s dismissal from Birmingham City as manager has been officially verified.
Due to health concerns, the seasoned head coach was unable to continue leading the now-relegated team in the Championship for too long.
Birmingham must now rebuild their entire team after being relegated, having fired Wayne Rooney and John Eustace earlier in the season.
“Birmingham City can confirm that Tony Mowbray has informed the club of his decision to step down as men’s first team manager with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement, confirming Mowbray’s resignation this week.
“Mowbray has chosen to concentrate on recovering fully from his surgery and spending time with his family. He temporarily stepped away from his on-site management responsibilities in February before taking a formal medical leave of absence in March.”
