Three days after signing infielder Joey Wendle, the Atlanta Braves designate him for an assignment.

Joey Wendle, an experienced infielder, has been designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves, the team said on Monday.

The action was taken as part of a significant roster shuffle that resulted in Ronald Acuña Jr., the current NL MVP, being placed on the 10-day injured list due to a ruptured left ACL. In order to replace Acuña on the outfield depth chart, Atlanta called up JP Martínez and activated All-Star catcher Sean Murphy from the injured list.

Wendle was thus unable to fit onto the 40-man roster. He was consequently fired before ever playing for the Braves.

Wendle was released by the division foe New York Mets and signed a one-year contract with Atlanta on Friday. Wendle was assigned by New York on May 15.

With just 10 starts in his 18 games, Wendle was hitting.222 with one double, one RBI, one stolen base, a.493 OPS, and a -0.1 WAR for the season.

In December 2017, Wendle was dealt by the Oakland Athletics to the Tampa Bay Rays. With his.300 hitting average,.789 OPS, and 4.9 WAR, he quickly established himself as a regular player for the Rays and finished fourth in the AL Rookie of the Year voting.

Due to hamstring and wrist ailments, Wendle missed the first half of 2019; however, he returned to form in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. With his first All-Star Game appearance and a 3.6 WAR in 2021, the utility infielder made significant progress.

The Rays traded Wendle to the Miami Marlins in November 2021. In just 101 games in 2022, Wendle amassed a 2.4 WAR; however, in 112 games the following year, his WAR fell to -0.2.

In the early going of 2024, Wendle appeared more like the Wendle of 2023 than the Wendle of 2018, 2021, or 2022, which explains why he lost favor with the Mets and why the Braves rarely gave him a chance. The 34-year-old will now have three options: join with a minor league team, go back on waivers, or reenter free agency.

What is the going rent for brand-new apartments that are closer to the onsite “work pods” and foosball than they are to Truist Park, which is three minutes away by foot?

The pricing and answer to that question have been made public by the mixed-use Ellison Parkview project, which is located behind The Battery Atlanta and the Braves stadium. To put it briefly, the pricing is not very low by suburban standards. Not surprising, though.

The most expensive rentals at Ellison Parkview that are now up for pre-leasing range from $3,854 to $3,879 a month.

In 1,519 square feet, that’s three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a foyer, a balcony, and a small dining area.
