When taking a cross-country flight, Mitch Canham dislikes merely plugging in his headphones and taking advantage of the downtime to smuggle in a nap.
The fifth-year head coach of Oregon State baseball has a way of making the most out of even the most routine travel days. Canham considered it a “great opportunity” for his team when the Beavers’ bus had a flat tire during a mid-week trip from Pullman to Spokane, Washington, earlier this year.
“That’s what 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. is for, getting a nice solid nap,” Canham chuckled. “During the day, it’s about communicating, being a part of it, and enjoying those moments.”
