The 28-year-old rebounded from a difficult 2023–24 season, tallying 25 goals with 36 assists for 61 points in 82 games. He has one year left on his contract, which is worth $6 million annually with a modified no-trade clause of 10 teams.

With 64 points in 2016–17, his 61 points was his second-highest point total of his career.

It appeared from Ehlers’ farewell interview that there had been no discussions about an extension with Winnipeg, and The Athletic said he has been made available.

Despite having a history of injuries—he appeared in just 45 games in 2022–2023 and just 82 games overall over a nine-year career—Ehlers has been incredibly productive when healthy.
