Report: After Quarreling With The Head Coach, The Commanders Star Departed From The Team.
We would have probably told you that cornerback Kendall Fuller would not be returning to the Washington Commanders come NFL season 2023.
It seems expected that the experienced cornerback Benjamin St-Juste would be squeezed out this offseason given the progress he displayed in 2022 and the Commanders’ selection of cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. in the first round of the NFL Draft.
After an inconsistent 4-13 season, the team may decide that keeping the eight-year veteran is the wisest course of action to take this offseason.
In the first quarter at NRG Stadium, Washington Commanders cornerback Kendall Fuller (29) intercepts the ball against Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks (13) for a touchdown reception.

Marcus Mosher of 33rd Team notes, “Kendall Fuller was one of the few bright spots on the Washington Commanders last season, but they were a mess on defense.” “Fuller will be an important member of Dan Quinn’s defense when he visits the area as the new head coach. Fuller will turn 29 in February, but expect Washington to hold onto him while they work to restructure the defense.”
Fuller played slightly over 1,000 snaps, 952 of which were wide, and the rest repetitions were primarily in the box or the slot, according to Pro Football Focus.
He thrived in his zone assignments, finishing with the second-best coverage grade of his career (82.8).
Regretfully for Washington, St-Juste, who finished over 20 points behind his more seasoned adversary, was the second-best zone corner.
Forbes, meanwhile, performed poorly in zone coverage, receiving a 49.9 grade and giving up a 133.9 NFL passer rating.
There’s a good chance the Commanders bolster the secondary in free agency, the NFL Draft, or both given how well-rounded the bunch played last season.
At the Washington Commanders’ inaugural press conference at Commanders Park, head coach Dan Quinn (L) grinned while Commanders general manager Adam Peters (R) spoke.

The team will need to look outside of the organization for possibilities the more holes it sees in its roster come March, when the league season begins.
While it might not have been the top priority at this time last year, keeping Fuller on board might be today.
This offseason, Spotrac forecasts Fuller will make an average of $14.1 million on a three-year contract.
