Legend’s Titans cautionary tale amid disclosure of a hidden Fifita clause – Transfer Whispers
Titans powerbrokers have been urged by rugby league icon Scott Sattler to “draw a line in the sand” and make their positions known to gun back rower David Fifita.
Due to player options for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, Fifita apparently signed a three-year contract extension in August, although he became a free agent on November 1.
According to The Daily Telegraph, he is now free to negotiate with opposing teams because his current deal pays him about $1 million a season.
Fifita’s contract allegedly contained a secret clause that allowed him to get to know the new coach, Des Hasler.
Sattler, on the other hand, didn’t buy it and thinks the Titans should confront Fifita.
“The club needs to be strong, set a clear position and say, ‘This is what we stand for. You can either support us or you can’t,” he told WWOS.
“One foot in, one foot out is not possible.”
Fifita’s player option for 2025 is said to be activated until Round 10 of the 2024 season, but Sattler anticipates yet another feeding frenzy.
As destructive as we think he will be, clubs will start enquiring with his manager after the first nine or ten rounds, according to Sattler. That’s exactly how it works.
