An ESPN analyst thinks the Sacramento Kings will contend for the championship in 2024.

The NBA Finals for 2023 have officially concluded. Thus, it would seem that we can proceed and offer our very early predictions for 2024.

This was the strategy employed by ESPN’s First Take on Tuesday morning, following the Denver Nuggets’ historic first-ever championship victory.

Following a look at the NBA title odds for 2024, Chris “Mad Dog” Russo of ESPN shared his own shortlist of title contenders for the upcoming campaign. And in an unexpected revelation to many outside of Russo, he gave an explanation of why he thinks the Sacramento Kings could contend for a championship in 2024.

How can I turn down the opportunities De’Aaron Fox, [Malik] Monk, and [Domantas] Sabonis have this year? It is going to get better in [Sacramento]. If Harrison Barnes could make a jump shot, they would have beaten Golden State. Who knows, maybe they would have defeated the Lakers after winning that series. We like Sabonis, the kid from Baylor [Davion Mitchell], Fox is fantastic, Monk did a great job, and they will only get better. A great deal of knowledge from the playoffs the previous year. You can be sure that they will have 50 wins the following season.

With a 48-34 record and their first Pacific Division championship since 2003, the Sacramento Kings surprised everyone in the NBA last season. It was also their first postseason appearance since 2006. In honor of the team’s achievements, the basketball community named them Coach of the Year, Executive of the Year, Clutch Player of the Year, and multiple All-NBA and All-Rookie honors.
