Huge Setback: The Detroit Lions Key player explained why he will no longer play for the team

In this league, you can’t win on a regular basis if your quarterback isn’t doing effectively. At least Detroit won’t have to worry about that come 2024.

This season, Goff ranked in the top four in the NFL in terms of passing yards, touchdown passes, and passer rating. With a passing rating of 97.9, he completed 67.3 percent of his throws for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

In terms of 20-plus-yard completions (69), he was surpassed only by Brock Purdy (72) and Baker Mayfield (14) in terms of 20-plus-yard TD passes (12). Ben Johnson’s offensive plan would be a wonderful fit for him because of his calmness, resilience, and accuracy.

With Johnson returning as offensive coordinator in 2024, Goff, 29, is coming off of what may have been his best season as a professional. There’s no reason to believe he won’t expand on his 2023 success going forward.

3. Providing staff continuity coaching

It is uncommon for a club to advance to the NFC Championship Game without suffering a significant loss to a key member of their coaching staff. The Lions win, and the other thirty-one teams lose.

Next season, Detroit will have all three coordinators back, which is a huge advantage for coaching consistency.

Aaron Glenn is tied for the third-longest defensive coordinator tenure in the league, and Johnson is tied for the longest offensive coordinator tenure.

Detroit finished in the top five in the NFL in terms of total offense, scoring, rushing, and passing, demonstrating that Johnson is one of the game’s brightest young offensive minds. Production is that. With Johnson back, Goff can take over and continue where he left off in the previous campaign. There’s no play-call language to learn, no new system. All that will need to be done is improve and refine what is already among the top football teams.

One of the most well-liked individuals in the building, Glenn has shown he can produce defensive talent. The Lions finished 2022–2023 as the NFL’s second-best run defense, and from 2022–2023 they dropped from 32nd to 19th place in overall defense. With more skill added to that side of the ball this summer, where can they go?

Since joining the Detroit Lions in 2021, the team has been among the top in the league, making Dave Fipp one of the best special teams coordinators in the NFL.

When the players return for the offseason training program, the Lions will be able to get right into the game thanks to the continuity of the coaching staff and the tactics. That puts Detroit ahead of many clubs in the upcoming season.
