PistonPowered staff forecasts the Detroit Pistons’ upcoming season.

The Detroit Pistons begin play against the Miami Heat the following week, and many are hoping that this will be the start of the team’s upward trajectory. After having the worst record in the NBA the previous season, Detroit is hoping to spread the floor with the addition of several veterans and the return of star point guard Cade Cunningham from injury. What is this team’s ceiling then? A spot in the playoffs, if only for the play-in match? What is the floor, and is it possibly more important? One more team in the bottom three? After posing the query to a few other PistonPowered employees, we arrived at the following conclusion.

Prediction: Judging by the 17 victories from the previous campaign, it’s simple to predict that this season will be comparable. However, supporters must keep in mind the potential that a healthy Cade Cunningham has with Jalen Duren and Jaden Ivey from year two. This year, just the three of them playing together should raise the bar. When you factor in Joe Harris’ floor spacing and Bojan’s pressure, I believe the Detroit Pistons finish closer to their ceiling than their floor. They play some good basketball in the first few days of April, but I believe they just miss out on the Play-In games. Definitely an improvement over last year, but Detroit is still not in the playoffs.
