Jesse Winker, a former All-Star outfielder, has inked a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals.

According to Washington Post writer Andrew Golden on social media:

According to a source, Jesse Winker has signed a minor league contract with the Nationals. Winker is welcome to attend the spring training. There’s another OF lefty in the mix.

Winker’s performance in the last two years has drastically decreased. With the Cincinnati Reds in 2021, the 30-year-old was an All-Star, batting.305 with 24 home runs and 71 RBI. But before the 2022 season, he was moved to the Seattle Mariners, where he only managed an on-base percentage of.344 and a.219 average. His power diminished, as he only managed 14 home runs and 53 RBI.

After being traded to Milwaukee in 2023, things didn’t really get any better. With the Brewers, he appeared in just 61 games while hitting just one home run and driving in 23. He batted.199 and had an on-base percentage of.320.

With Dylan Crews and other young outfielders vying for big league opportunities, the Nationals, who are favored to finish last in the National League East, may provide Winker with a platform to explore his identity. Currently, the 40-man roster includes outfielders Alex Call, Joey Gallo, Stone Garrett, Victor Robles, Lane Thomas, and Jacob Young.

The top two prospects for the Nats are both outfielders: Crews and James Wood.
