The icing on the cake on a day that will always be remembered was when head coach Dan Lanning officially declined the Alabama Crimson Tide job was Stewart’s decision.
Then Friday arrived, bringing with it the news that Oregon’s fiercest opponent, the Oregon Ducks, was losing head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama, a position Lanning had declined. Despite UW’s 34-13 loss to Michigan in the College Football Playoff national title game in 2024, DeBoer’s incredible career record of 104-12 was maintained.
The decision puts Washington in a terrible situation. Without its highly skilled head coach and a roster full of outstanding players—many of whom have declared for the 2024 NFL draft—it enters the Big Ten.
