NEW YORK (AP) — On December 7, UConn, Iowa, Louisville, and Tennessee will participate in the first-ever Women’s Champions Classic.

Fox will broadcast the doubleheader in primetime, with both games taking place at Barclays Center. The pairings are still up in the air.

Executive Vice President of Fox Sports Jordan Bazant stated, “We are excited to showcase these student-athletes at the highest level – in primetime on the Fox broadcast network. The Women’s Champions Classic is the next step in Fox Sports’ longstanding commitment to elevating women’s athletics.” “We are thrilled to introduce the Women’s Champions Classic to college basketball fans across the country, in collaboration with our friends at HS&E, the outstanding participating schools, and their respective conferences.”

Coach Geno Auriemma of UConn stated, “We’re very excited to have the Women’s Champions Classic on our schedule for the foreseeable future.” The level of interest in women’s basketball has never been higher. Early in the season, fans can look forward to thrilling matchups thanks to the Champions Classic.

Since 2011, a men’s version of the tournament has kicked off the season, with Duke, Michigan State, Kentucky, and Kansas participating. Each year, the tournament’s locations have changed. The location of the event following its debut this year is still up in the air.

According to David Levy, co-CEO of Horizon Sports and Experiences, “interest in women’s sports continues to experience exponential growth, with basketball leading the way with viewership and attendance records continually being set.” “The Women’s Champions Classic, which is being held in the basketball mecca, feels like the perfect time to launch, and we are honored to have these four legendary programs take part in our inaugural event.”
