The end of the XFL regular season is almost here. and the picture of the postseason is taking shape. On Saturday, the Houston Roughnecks and San Antonio Brahmas defeated the Vegas Vipers and Orlando Guardians, respectively, to begin Week 9.
While San Antonio won 25–23, Houston prevailed 28–21.
Renegades 26; Defenders 28
On Sunday afternoon, the action went on, with a lot of playoff ramifications. First up was a game between the Arlington Renegades and the D.C. Defenders, who are already guaranteed a postseason spot. Arlington was hoping to punch its ticket to the postseason with a 4-4 record.
D.C. may secure home-field advantage in the XFL North with a victory.
Arlington scored first, but after being stopped twice at the goal line, had to settle for a field goal. Jordan Ta’amu’s nine-yard pass to Jordan Hammond sealed a swift touchdown drive for D.C.
Even though the Defenders’ two-point attempt was unsuccessful, D.C. managed to build a three-point lead and demonstrated that its offense was well into playoff shape.
Following the touchdown, the Renegades put together a strong drive that featured effective quarterback switching between Kelly Bryant and Luis Perez. But Taylor Russolino’s second field goal attempt of the afternoon, a 44-yarder, was unsuccessful.
On the drive, Arlington used Bryant as a runner because their star running back, De’Veon Smith, was out due to an ankle injury.

The two-quarter mark saw D.C. maintain its three-point advantage. The next drive, the Defenders added to it.
A spectacular over-the-shoulder sideline catch by Brandon Smith and a 14-yard touchdown pass from Ta’amu to Lucky were the highlights of the series.
