QB Judd Anderson is fantasizing about the Hurricanes these days, in between “grinding the Grinch,” watching favorite Christmas movies, and getting ready for his next chapter as a University of Miami student.
“There’s just a longing in that facility to get back to the point of dominating college football, playing for a school with a national championship history like that,” the optimistic 18-year-old Anderson of Warner Robins (Georgia) High School said to the Miami Herald on Thursday. “I would like to take part in that.”
He’ll get there soon enough.
The physically intimidating and intensely motivated 6-7, 225-pound Anderson will be the first high school signal caller to officially join the Hurricanes when the three-day early signing period begins at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. He’s choosing his orange-and-green underwear for his school signing ceremony, but although he graduated from high school early and has a 3.95 grade point average, he’ll have to wait a few weeks to go to Coral Gables in mid-January.

Here are the live signing day updates for the Miami Hurricanes 2024 recruiting class, which will begin at 7:00 AM on December 20, 2023.
Abram Murray, the incoming kicker and the first UM commit in the 2024 signing class back in July 2022, will be Anderson’s roommate soon. When UM’s class, which is presently ranked in the top 10 nationally, looked like a ghost town on April 7, of last year, Anderson was the second commit.
“Ghost town: You’re not wrong,” Murray remarked over the weekend, concurring that he “had faith” that the class would rank among the best in the country and that Anderson, with whom he forged a friendship during their time as lone commits, would make the ideal roommate. “I like him because he won’t get sidetracked and will stick to the straight and narrow path to achieve his goals.”
Presently, the class is packed with top players from all three stages of the game; over thirty newcomers are anticipated to sign scholarship agreements during the first signing period, which ends this Friday. For the 2024 season, the second signing window opens on February 7 and closes on April 1.
With former UM fourth-year junior Tyler Van Dyke announcing last week that he is transferring to Wisconsin after a career that saw the greatest highs and lowest lows in Coral Gables, the quarterback-thin Hurricanes could sign at least one quarterback other than Anderson for 2024 as early as Wednesday. However, it is anticipated that the extra quarterback will arrive through the transfer channel and possess sufficient collegiate experience to potentially enter the starting lineup for the Swamp game this autumn against the Florida Gators.
The only available healthy quarterback for UM on scholarship is sophomore Jacurri Brown, who will start the Pinstripe Bowl game against Rutgers next week after missing all of 2023’s action. Brown may choose to reapply for the starting position or enter the portal after the Pinstripe. A promising freshman at Florida State named Emory Williams suffered a compound fracture to his left arm, which required surgery last month, and is currently recovering.
Like almost every quarterback who registers with a major college, Anderson is aware that he may need to redshirt while he matures, but he also freely admits that he possesses the skill to challenge for playing time right away. His other offers were Eastern Michigan, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Connecticut, and Memphis.
“College football is an ever-evolving world where anything can happen and anybody can come in at any time,” Anderson remarked in reference to the transfer portal’s seemingly erratic ins and outs. “A real rookie taking the field for Game 1? I need to remind myself of that. I am a competitor like that. I’m confident that I’ll be among the greatest guys there, and I want to show off my skills. It doesn’t matter if I redshirt or get to play four or five games. Each day is an opportunity to work.

Images via The Planks In a method employed by recruiting sites, The Planks Anderson is regarded as a three-star prospect (three-to-five for athletes at prominent institutions). According to 247Sports, he is Georgia’s 112th-best player overall and the 49th-best quarterback in the country. According to On3, he is Georgia’s 63rd best player and 43rd best quarterback.
He never participated in Pop Warner or any young league football, but he did start out for his middle school as a receiver in the sixth grade and moved up to quarterback in the ninth. Ridgeland in Rossville, Georgia, was the school where he played high school ball for his first two years. However, in an era of pass-heavy, spread offenses, the run-heavy, antiquated Wing-T offense was not favorable to a big-bodied, big-armed, pro-style quarterback.
In order to play his junior season, Anderson transferred to Jones County High in Gray, Georgia, where he completed 56.5 percent of his passes for 1,776 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
Although Anderson had a difficult year, he returned to Jones County in 2023 to begin his senior year. In the first two games of 2023, Jones County used Anderson and a different quarterback every other series. Following his transfer to Warner Robins, Anderson’s performance skyrocketed.
In his 12 games for Class 5A Warner Robins, he completed 232 of 315 (73.6%) for 2,917 yards and 30 touchdowns, with seven interceptions. Leading the Warner Robins Demons to a 9-4 final record and a trip to the state playoffs, he both ran and caught touchdowns. After his previous Jones County team was called for more than 100 yards of penalties, including multiple instances of roughing the quarterback, on October 27, Anderson guided the Demons to a 43-28 victory.
For Judd, it was atonement, according to his father Wade.

Ultimately, the quarterback noted that after transferring, “it got 10 times better” because “it wasn’t a good situation” at Jones County. “At Warner Robins, I had decision-making authority,” he declared. They gave me the freedom to escape this situation where I felt trapped, almost like a box. “You’re making the right decisions, you’re the best player out there, have fun, do what you do and just play ball,” was the mantra at Warner Robins.
In addition, Anderson is a gifted basketball player who led Jones County to the state semifinals as a junior and led the state in rebounds as a sophomore in Georgia. This season, he gave up hoops to concentrate on football. Shortly after being hired in February 2023, Shannon Dawson, the offensive coordinator at UM, extended an offer of a scholarship to Anderson.
“He said to Judd, ‘You’re our guy,’ and the communication has been outstanding since Day 1,” stated Wade Anderson, the owner of a landscaping business that works with homeowners on large-scale projects like water features and retainer walls. “Judd is not entering the situation thinking, ‘By year 1…’ or ‘By year 2…’ He intends to labor tirelessly.
Regarding the unstable quarterback situation at UM, Judd’s father stated, “Can’t get caught up in what’s going on, good or bad.” “He will simply keep his head down and concentrate on growing.”
