“This is a whole other kind of work. Yes, baseball is still the topic of discussion and my responsibilities remain largely the same, but the work itself has evolved. It’s obvious that there is more media coverage, non-baseball content, and a larger front office. Those are all quite distinct things. Every day, I sense it. You make adjustments. Every day I pick up new knowledge. After five months, I feel more at ease than I did at the beginning.

David Stearns talked about seeking Yoshinobu Yamamoto and hiring manager Carlos Mendoza as well.

Ron Darling and Gary Cohen of SNY also questioned Stearns on Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s pursuit this winter and the employment of manager Carlos Mendoz. Stearns discussed his relationship with Mendoz and how easy it was to discuss baseball with him. Additionally, he said that the Mets would make big deals in the future, but only when the player and the timing are appropriate.

Seeing how David Stearns performs in his first full season as New York’s president of baseball operations will be interesting. He stepped down from that position in 2023 to advise Brewers general manager Matt Arnold.
