PAINFUL DEPARTURE:LA Clippers Head Coach Has gone…….
Following his trade from the Toronto Raptors to the Utah Jazz, NBA champion Otto Porter Jr. may choose to pursue a buyout to join with a competing team. Porter was a vital component of the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 championship team, but he has struggled to stay healthy ever since. If he can stay on the court, though, he might be a great asset to many teams.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report recently made the prediction that, should Porter strike a buyout with Utah, he will end up with the Los Angeles Clippers. Of course, this prediction is based on the facts rather than sourced information, but the fit might make sense.
Any buyout addition would have to occur after a current player is released from the Clippers since they do not currently have a position open on the roster. That adds a layer of complexity and might not be the team’s decision.
Despite the CBA’s new rule that forbids teams beyond the first luxury tax threshold from signing buyout players making more than that amount, Porter is still able to sign with teams like the Clippers because his season-long salary of $6.3 million is less than the $12,405,000 non-taxpayer mid-level exception.
All of this is meaningless until Porter is bought out, which hasn’t happened yet, but if he were to become a free agent, the seasoned forward would rank among the best.
