This offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars should overhaul their roster. That is what occurs when the unexpected outcomes are obtained by running it again.

With the Jaguars navigating free agency and the draft and surely moving on from some key contributors, both sides of the ball will have new faces.

Which players, though, should the Jaguars focus on developing rather than just holding onto? Before we get to free agency, we break it down.

Allen Josh

Josh Allen is the best player on the Jaguars, as demonstrated in 2023; he is more than just a blue chip player. One of the most valuable assets for any NFL team is a young, dynamic pass rusher, and the Jaguars have Allen in Allen. Although he has had successful seasons in the past, 2023 was the finest year a Jaguars pass-rusher has ever experienced. It’s time for the Jaguars to make good on their promise to keep Allen around.

Allen represents one of the real and original building blocks of the Jaguars roster. After several years of demonstrating that he is one of the league’s best pass-rushers—the epitome of a blue-chip player—he had an outstanding season in 2023.

Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence hasn’t yet experienced Allen’s level of consistency in production, nor has he really had a season as explosive and record-breaking as Allen’s 2023. However, there is still no denying that Lawrence is the most crucial player going forward and one of the Jaguars’ best players on the team.

Though some will laugh at the notion that Lawrence is a blue chip player, the truth is that only ten teams would not swap their quarterback situation for Jacksonville’s. Lawrence has demonstrated exceptional talent throughout his career; if he had a stronger support network in 2024, this position might end up becoming the more accepted one.

Calvin Robinson

Many teams would be willing to swap their quarterback situations for Lawrence, and similarly, many teams would like to make Calvin Ridley their number one wide receiver. After spending nearly two years away from football, he had some patchy performances in 2023, but he still managed to log 1,000 yards and was the Jaguars’ go-to receiver when they needed a play.

In addition to being one of the five most gifted players on the team if the Jaguars decide to re-sign Ridley, high expectations are placed on him for a huge 2024 campaign. He remains one of the game’s top route runners and a proven deep threat with a winning outside track record.

Etienne Travis

Even though he received a lot of touches, Travis Etienne’s 1,000 yards rushing in the Jaguars’ offense last season is still practically miraculous. Even though the Jaguars’ running game was among the worst in the NFL, Etienne managed to make enough progress to be considered for the Pro Bowl.

While Etienne isn’t quite on par with the best running backs in the NFL, he isn’t far behind either. Blue-chip status could be hiss if he can become a true three-down back who doesn’t come off the field and improve his pass protection.

Prospective Blue Chips in the Future
Walker Travon

After going on a tear in the last month of the season, former No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker recorded his first double-digit sack season in 2023. Walker has to improve his win percentage significantly before he can be considered a blue-chip player, but with sufficient development, he possesses the skills and three-down ability to get there.

Harrison Anton

Anton Harrison seems to be a team mainstay and is probably the best draft selection made during the Trent Baalke era thus far. After overcoming a difficult start to his rookie campaign, he emerged as the top rookie tackle for pass blocking. He was actually among the better right tackles in the pass pro class overall in 2023. Harrison still needs to get better in the run game, but there are many reasons to be optimistic about him.

Campbell Tyson

For several reasons, this was the hardest name to put on the list. After the 2022 season, Tyson Campbell appeared to be a perennial Pro Bowl player. However, injuries ended his 2023 campaign, making it a year to really forget. Additionally, Campbell will now be employed in a press-oriented scheme that will require him to play with his back to the quarterback, a weakness he has always had. Nevertheless, he was a huge rebounder and possessed every quality one could ask for in a top cover corner.
