Why the Commanders Won’t Lose, Why the Giants Will Win, and a Forecast.

The New York Giants haven’t won in over a month, and if you haven’t remembered—and we wouldn’t blame you, considering how long ago it was—their second victory came against the Washington Commanders. Win number three ought to be in the bag since the Giants have been playing like the Commanders lately, right? Not so quickly. Since these two teams first met, a lot has changed. The Giants have been losing players to injuries for a while now. They won’t have tight end Darren Waller and quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who performed well for New York in the previous meeting.

The Giants’ defence hasn’t been the same since defensive lineman Leonard Williams was traded away after playing in his final game as a Giant. With starter Daniel Jones and tight end Taylor on injured reserve, rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito has assumed control of the offence, but let’s be real. DeVito is a tough young quarterback, but nobody should fool themselves into believing he’d be starting over Taylor, for example, as he’s not really ready for the spotlight.

The Chieftains? Chase Young and Montez Sweat, two edge rushers, were traded away. However, given that Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne, the interior duo, are still producing quality work, you wouldn’t really notice that. Sam Howell, the quarterback, appears to be finding his offensive rhythm after struggling against the Giants defence the previous time. With 2,783 yards, Howell is the NFL’s top passer. This story, to put it briefly, is about two franchises that are going in different directions. You are familiar with the routine by now—any Sunday, etc. So let’s examine the situation and see if the Giants, who have a 7-3-1 record against Washington since 2018, can win the regular-season series.

REASONS FOR GIANT DAY If the Giants want to win this week, they will need a strong performance from running back Saquon Barkley, who they seem to be resigned to depending on most going forward. Following his complete recuperation from the ankle injury he suffered in Week 6 against Buffalo, Barkley has brought new life to the Giants’ running game. In the three games earlier this season that Barkley was sidelined, the Giants ran for 334 yards as a team, or 111.3 yards per game. Since Bakrley’s return, the Giants have run for 675 yards, or 135 yards per game.Aww. But let’s not pretend.

This won’t be made easy by Washington. According to SIS, Barkley completed 70% of his rushing attempts in the first meeting, gaining 77 yards on 21 carries against a stacked box that included eight or more men. Barkley was successful in 29% of those situations. The Giants must execute excellent run blocking if they hope to win this game so that Barkley can perform to the fullest.
