ESPN REPORT: The Jacksonville Jaguars Head Coach is Being Fired Due to…
Regarding the dismissal of Jaguars coaching staff members, head coach Doug Pederson issued the following statement:
I have had to make the tough choice to relieve a number of the coaching staff members—both on the offensive and defensive ends of the ball—of their responsibilities since the conclusion of our season. All of these coaches deserve my gratitude for their incredibly hard work over the past two seasons. In the end, I believed that in order for our football team to accomplish the things we are capable of, change was required.
‘NFL Black Monday’ claimed the life of another coach when Mike Caldwell, the Jaguars’ former defensive coordinator, was let go, the organization announced on Monday.
Caldwell spent two years as Head Coach Doug Pederson’s employee.
The day following their defeat by the Tennessee Titans, this was verified. A victory for the Jaguars would have sealed the division title and guaranteed them a spot in the playoffs.
Featuring players like Josh Allen, Travon Walker, and Foyesade Oluokun, Caldwell oversaw a formidable defense that was among the best in the National Football League.
Apart from Mike Caldwell, the subsequent individuals were released from their positions:
Brentson Buckner, coach of the defensive line
Sean Cullina is the defensive quality control coach.
Tony Gilbert is the inside linebackers coach, and Cody Grimm is the safety coach.
Bob Sutton is the senior defensive assistant, and Tee Mitchell is the defensive quality control coach.
Deshea Townsend, Coach of the Cornerbacks and Coordinator of Passing Games
Bernie Parmalee, coach of the running backs
Furthermore, Todd Washington, the Assistant Offensive Line Coach, will not be coming back after his contract expires.
A year after winning the AFC South, the Jaguars finished with a 9-8 record after dropping five of their final six games. This is in response to the defense giving up 28 points or more in four of the previous five losses, including the 28-20 season-ending loss to the Titans on Sunday. In addition to having trouble near the end, Jacksonville’s defense finished 17th overall in points allowed and 22nd overall in total defense. The Jaguars, in particular, had a terrible time stopping the pass, ranking 25th in scoring and 26th in yards allowed.
