Report: The KC Chiefs Sign Detroit Lions Star Player For 2 Years Deal….
The Kansas City Chiefs have multiple suitors interested in a potential a tag-and-trade deal for cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
The Miami Dolphins are a potential candidate. So are the Detroit Lions, who are “pretty set on adding a high-end corner,” according to Fowler.
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported last week that the Chiefs placed a $19.8 million franchise tag on Sneed.
Prior to Schultz’s report, Fowler said that the Chiefs would be “open to consummate a trade” off of Sneed’s franchise tag “if no long-term deal is reached.”
The Dolphins are looking for another cornerback to join Jalen Ramsey, as the team reportedly plans to cut veteran Xavien Howard.
The Lions also need an additional cornerback. Cameron Sutton struggled last year, and depth at the position was so thin, the Lions ended up starting Kindle Vildor after he was released from the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad late in the year.
Now Vildor and other options like Emmanuel Moseley are heading into free agency, and the Lions will need to build at the position to make it past the NFC Championship Game next year.
Detroit ranks eighth among all NFL teams with more than $52 million in available cap space, according to Over the Cap. The Dolphins are currently $31.6 million over the cap, so they’ll need to shed money by the start of the new league year.
Sneed established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL in 2022 when he racked up three interceptions, 11 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, five quarterback hits, 108 tackles and 3.5 sacks while starting all 17 regular-season games for the Chiefs.
The cornerback followed that up with another solid season in 2023, highlighted by a forced fumble against Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers during the AFC Championship Game that helped secure the Chiefs’ spot in Super Bowl LVIII.
