This day in Boston Celtics history saw the legendary team tie the record for the most points scored in a regular-season NBA game since the shot clock was introduced. A 153-107 annihilation of the (then) Baltimore Bullets (now the Washington Wizards) set a record.
The win trailed only an almost unbelievable 173-point total scored against the (then) Minneapolis Lakers (now Los Angeles) in 1959. The Celtics had previously tied identical high scores against the Philadelphia Warriors (now Golden State) in 1962 and against the Detroit Pistons two seasons earlier.
Leading the Celtics with 33 points, 10 assists, and an equal number of rebounds was wing John Havlicek.
Jo Jo White, the point guard, finished with 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists. Don Chaney and Steve Kuberski each scored 22 points.
On this day in history, former Boston centre Kelly Olynyk made the rarest play in professional basketball history—a four-point play, which is defined as a foul on a made three-point shot.
Strangely enough, they won 111-78 the next time around against the Wizards.
