ESPN REPORT: The South Carolina Gamecocks men’s basketball Head Coach is Being Fired Due to…
LAKE BUENA VISTA – Following her triumphant victory in the South Carolina women’s basketball national championship earlier this month, Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley fulfilled her promise of heading to Disney World by arriving at The Most Magical Place on Earth on Saturday, April 27. There, she enjoyed a joyful day immersing herself in iconic Disney attractions.
Staley kicked off her Disney adventure with a journey on Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. By midday, she found herself at Magic Kingdom, riding atop a parade float alongside her fellow South Carolina basketball assistant coaches. The team basked in the limelight during an exuberant afternoon parade down Main Street, U.S.A.
A former six-time WNBA All-Star, Staley led the South Carolina team to its third women’s basketball national title on April 6, marking a storybook ending to their undefeated season. This victory extended Staley’s remarkable coaching record to 109-3 over the past three years, solidifying her status as one of the few coaches in women’s college basketball history to claim three national championships.
In the aftermath of the Gamecocks’ championship win, Staley’s declaration of “Going to Disney World!’’ during a live postgame interview on national television continued the cherished tradition of Disney Parks honoring major national champions, a tradition inaugurated with the New York Giants following their Super Bowl triumph in 1987.
