Mighty Bears Conclude Pure Fiction… Or Do They?

Analysis: Given the Bears’ impressive performance against Detroit and their ugly victory over Minnesota, winning out doesn’t seem completely out of the question.

After the Bears opened the season with two wins in their first ten games, it seems like real fantasy football to consider, but the odds against them winning the regular season can’t be that great when compared to what they would have been two weeks or even a month ago.

One is that they recently returned from back-to-back divisional road games in which they outperformed the Lions and Vikings despite only picking up a close, ugly victory.

The important thing to remember is that even though they lost to the Lions, they were still in a position from which any team could reasonably expect to win the other game.

The main factor giving them a chance against anyone is their defense.

It is difficult for any team to simply come in and score an easy win like the Chargers and Chiefs did against them earlier because of the acquisition of Montez Sweat and his impact on the defensive line, the defensive line’s pass rush pressure and how it has led to poor throws capitalized on in the secondary, and the NFL’s best run defense.

“Yes, it’s coming together,” stated Matt Eberflus, the coach of the Bears. “You know, I believe that early on there were some injuries. We had injuries, but that’s not a valid excuse, you know. And, you know, those injuries prevented us from having the continuity we desired during training camp. And I believe that following the third, fourth, and so on.

With those guys, you can feel their momentum building, and it’s exciting to watch them.”

The remaining causes:

Even though Justin Fields is clearly not playing at the same level as Jalen Hurts and struggles to hold onto the ball when it matters most, he managed to secure an uncommon close victory on the road with a last-minute drive that produced the winning points. At least he can accomplish this now that there is precedent.
