Takeaways from Week 1: Watch Deshaun Watson soar during Day 3 of the Browns’ OTAs and watch defenders make huge plays.

Ohio’s Cleveland — Deshaun Watson put any doubts about whether he truly “looks like himself” barely six months after shoulder surgery to rest on Thursday during Day 3 of organized team activities with a masterful deep ball to David Bell. Watson made the statement.

On the last day of practice for the week, Watson dropped back and launched a tight spiral with excellent velocity that found a beautiful home in Bell’s hands for a touchdown.

Watson largely threw routes on air during a closed-door session with the media, but nobody would have guessed that he had undergone surgery in November to fix a partially torn labrum and shattered shoulder socket.

Stefanski remarked, “He looked like himself to me,” during Wednesday’s practice—the only one of the week that was accessible to the media. Since we’ve entered Phase 2, I’ve had the opportunity to watch him for the past few weeks, and I’ve seen him toss. He appears to be himself, but we’ll just keep an eye on the medical staff as he makes excellent progress.

Watson threw on Tuesday and Thursday of this week, and he will probably throw on the same days for the next two weeks. Watson will likely continue to throw every other day in OTAs. During the last two weeks, he should ideally throw on the one day of the week when he is available to the media.

However, he produced some excellent plays on Days 1 and 3, including a touchdown pass to tight end Jordan Akins and several long passes to Cedric Tillman and Bell.

This week’s absences of David Njoku, Elijah Moore, and Amari Cooper allowed Watson to hone his timing with some of the younger receivers.
