Indiana’s South Bend — Just moments after Ohio State players approached their tunnel with a “Ohio Against The World” banner in hand, head coach Ryan Day came over and gave the supporters a firm fist pump.

Day’s feelings had been running high all week due to remarks made by former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz, who stated that Ohio State’s lack of physicality is the reason the team loses important games. It was Holtz who predicted on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Friday that “Notre Dame will take that same approach” to hand Day another crushing setback.

Rather, the sixth-ranked Buckeyes defeated No. 9 Notre Dame 17-14, and they did it in a fashion that Day could not have planned. After a replay review, it was determined that Ohio State had driven the field and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by Chip Trayanum with one second remaining.

Day expressed her displeasure with Lou Holtz’s public remarks regarding his team, Ohio State, and Buckeye Nation. Holtz was recognised alongside Notre Dame’s 1988 national championship squad during the game on Saturday. “That is not going to be tolerated. That isn’t even remotely accurate. We had one bad half, the second half, up in Ann Arbour a few years ago. We are physical in every game we play.
