Beyond The Field: Five Ways Cameron Ward Would Help The Miami Hurricanes
Ward helps keep Miami players from transferring.
It’s the Transfer Portal Era. Any player can transfer and it might be out of the blue. Look at Colbie Young. That was a bit surprising, or was it?
Especially at wide receiver where a talented quarterback helps a pass catcher get to the NFL, players on the current roster like Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George want to know the quarterback situation heading into next fall. Having Ward on the roster would make it less likely to see defections to the Transfer Portal.
2) High school recruits will see the benefit of playing with Ward.
Before anyone asks, yes Ward signing with Miami would help Mario Cristobal and his staff recruit elite 5-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith as the first of two 2024 National Signing Days nears on Dec. 20 (the second one is Feb. 7, 2024).
There’s no way around the discussion, Miami wants to land Smith above probably any other recruit because he’s such a special talent. Adding Ward has to be enticing to the No. 1 ranked recruit by Rivals and 247.
3) Keeping Miami in the news, and it’s positive news.
National and local media would lavish Miami with praise if Ward signed with the Hurricanes. That’s the nature of the beast. That point also helps with points No. 1 and No. 2. A lot!
4) Ward coming to The U helps to set high expectations, and they would be realistic.
Before he ever stepped foot on the field for a live game with the Hurricanes, Miami’s ranking would be higher and the Canes players around Ward would also have higher expectations.
Ward helps provide the “juice” that has often been missing from the Miami football program for the better part of two decades. He’s a proven commodity so the hype is real.
5) Ward will help bring the Miami fans together.
For a long time, there’s been much consternation over Miami’s quarterback play. Miami fans arguing about which player should be Miami’s quarterback has been a common topic.
Ward would help to get rid of the concerns and help Miami fans be excited about the football program in a way that’s not been seen in a long time. Those fans would even do so before Ward plays a game. Every college football program needs the backing of its fans, and Miami’s fans would rally around his decision to come to Coral Gables.
To conclude, Ward signing with Miami would help raise Miami’s football program in many ways that simply have not been seen for a long time. The Canes could be on the verge of a breakthrough if Ward does sign on the dotted line.
