Tony Parker, a Spurs legend, motivates Victor Wembanyama, another Frenchman

On Sunday, the team celebrated the former point guard’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

MILWAUKEE – Although Victor Wembanyama was not present for the Spurs’ Sunday halftime tribute to Tony Parker at the Frost Bank Center, the rookie sensation expressed his pride in their shared nationality during the ceremony.

“Sports culture in France is well-established. “It inspires you to create history even more,” Wembanyama remarked in reference to Parker’s achievements.

In a few brief remarks from center court, Parker thanked the team’s supporters before witnessing his No. 9 jersey banner being raised once more to the rafters.

After Parker was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in August, along with former Spurs center Pau Gasol, San Antonio Silver Stars great and assistant coach Becky Hammon, and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, the banner was redone to honor Parker’s status as one of the game’s greatest players.

Parker played point guard for the Spurs for 17 seasons, winning four NBA titles, being selected to six All-Star teams, averaging 15.5 points and 5.6 assists per game, and winning MVP of the 2007 NBA Finals.
