According to his wife, the Pro Football Hall of Famer died quietly at home in Los Angeles on Thursday night.

born in Georgia In 1964, Brown guided the Cleveland Browns to the National Football League championship and was voted three times as the NFL’s Most Valuable Player.

He was among the first stars in the game as it became more and more popular on television.

His wife, Monique, said on Instagram, “To the world he was an activist, actor, and football star.”

He was a devoted and wonderful father, grandfather, and husband to our family. Our hearts are shattered.”

The Cleveland Browns tweeted that he was a “legend, leader, activist, visionary”.

He played for the team between 1957-65, and a statue of him was erected outside their stadium in 2016.

Sporting News and the Associated Press both named him the best American football player of the 20th century on two separate occasions.

He was admitted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971. Since his retirement, no player for the Browns has worn the number 32.

Brown won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1957 after being selected sixth overall in the draft.

Brown played football, lacrosse, basketball, and track at Syracuse University.

In 1984, he was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and is regarded as one of the all-time great lacrosse players.

He shocked the sports world in 1966 by quitting football at the age of thirty, at the height of his career.
