The football roster at Michigan State has changed significantly since the 2023 season ended, but in 2024, the Spartans will have two new offensive weapons.

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Jaron Glover withdrew from the NCAA transfer portal in order to remain at MSU, while senior wide receiver Montorie Foster confirmed his return for a fifth year in East Lansing on Thursday.

For Michigan State’s wide receiver group, which had experienced significant losses this offseason, this is a significant development. Tre Mosley, a fifth-year senior, is no longer eligible. Christian Fitzpatrick, a redshirt junior, transferred to Marshall, while Tyrell Henry, a sophomore, transferred to Wisconsin.

Easily his greatest season at MSU, Foster led the Spartans last year in receptions (43), receiving yards (576), and receiving touchdowns (3), tying for the team lead. Foster has 60 receptions for 816 yards and five touchdowns in his career. With 122 return yards on seven tries, he has also gained expertise as a kick returner (17.4 yards per return).

In contrast, Glover shown a remarkable capacity to gain space from his opponent during his debut season as a member of Michigan State’s receiving rotation. Despite missing four games due to injury, the redshirt freshman caught 14 passes for 263 yards in his eight appearances. Glover became a legitimate deep threat in 2023, even though the Spartans had offensive difficulties that season. He led the team in yards per catch with 18.6 in 2023.

The fact that Courtney Hawkins, the wide receivers coach at Michigan State, was kept on staff by head coach Jonathan Smith probably had something to do with Foster and Glover’s decision to return to the university.

Michigan State bolstered its defensive line depth on Wednesday when former Middle Tennessee State defensive end Quindarius Dunnigan committed to the Spartans out of the transfer portal.
