Injury update on Trevor Lawrence: Jaguars quarterback clears concussion protocol, plays Buccaneers with team.
Lawrence’s streak of games played won’t end, after all
The Jacksonville Jaguars have confirmed that quarterback Trevor Lawrence has cleared the concussion protocol and will travel with the team on Sunday to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Lawrence could have missed his very first football game since high school owing to an injury.
In addition to the injury he sustained during Jacksonville’s Week 13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, Lawrence is still recovering from an ankle injury he sustained during last weekend’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Lawrence started the last two games for the Jaguars despite suffering an ankle injury. Lawrence was obviously playing below par, even though he had his moments in every game. In the team’s Week 14 loss to Cleveland, he threw three interceptions, and in the next week’s defeat to the Ravens, he made fewer than 60% of his passes.
If Lawrence hadn’t received the call, C.J. Beathard would have been the man to start. Beathard, a seven-year veteran with 12 regular-season starts under his belt, has been listed on the team’s injury report with a left shoulder injury (though he has participated fully in this week’s practices). In relief of Lawrence during the team’s defeat to Cincinnati, he completed 9 of 10 passes for 63 yards.
