Victor Wembanyama of the Spurs beats the Trail Blazers to set an NBA record.
The 19-year-old Spurs sensation Victor Wembanyama has shown flashes of brilliance numerous times this season, most notably on Thursday night against the Trail Blazers. However, the 19-year-old has spent the first part of his rookie season getting used to the NBA. The 7’4″ forward set a new league record with his stat line of 30 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 7 blocks.
Wembanyama made history by becoming the first player to record 30 points and seven blocks in a game while playing less than half of the game. The big man only played 24:27 that evening, but he helped lead San Antonio to a 118–105 victory over Portland. Wembanyama is averaging nearly thirty minutes per game this season, but because of a sore ankle, he hasn’t played more than twenty-five minutes in any of his last three games.
