Tennessee Titans sack coach after six seasons following …
The Tennessee Titans sacked head coach Mike Vrabel, on Tuesday, following back-to-back losing seasons. In an interview posted by the team, controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk opened up on whether the team management considered trading the coach instead of firing him. In this regard, she said, “Yes, there was. But there’s a bit of misconception about a coach’s contract, say versus a player’s contract. A coach’s contract, you can’t trade them unless they are a willing partner to that trade. So, yes, we thought about it but at the end of the day with league rules the way they are it would have maybe put us back three weeks and you know, to get the right head coach I was just not willing to go to the back of the line and take a chance of missing out on someone we really wanted.”
In a previous statement, Strunk disclosed that she had a lengthy conversation with Vrabel about his termination and said that her choice to fire him “was as difficult as any I’ve made as Controlling Owner.”
“I think the teams that empower an aligned and collaborative team across all football functions will be best positioned for sustained success as the NFL continues to innovate and evolve.” In order to carry out that objective, we started a change in our philosophy of football leadership last year and made a number of personnel adjustments. The squad would gain from a new coaching staff’s perspective and fresh approach as well, I concluded when I carried out my evaluation of our team’s condition,” Strunk stated in her statement
The team’s general manager since last year, Ran Carthon, responded to Vrabel’s dismissal as well. He squashed all such theories by declaring that he and Vrabel never had any problems together. “We got along well and collaborated well, both personally and professionally. We followed each other exactly. I think of Vrabes as a friend, and I think we’ll stay that way going ahead. I wish him nothing but the best,” he said.
After taking over in 2018, 48-year-old Vrabel guided Tennessee to four straight winning seasons. Since then, the Titans have failed to live up to the hype and have dropped significantly with two consecutive poor seasons that have seen them end more than ten games below.500. They concluded this season with six victories and eleven losses
