What is the new goal song for the Maple Leafs? Toronto unveils Hall & Oates hit’s replacement.

The wish of Maple Leafs supporters seeking a new goal song has finally been fulfilled.

On Wednesday night, Toronto kicks off the 2023–24 campaign, and at Scotiabank Arena, a brand-new goal tune will be heard once the Leafs light the lamp.

Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun revealed that the team is introducing a new celebration song on opening night, replacing the five-season staple “You Make My Dreams” by Daryl Hall and John Oates.

Both the players and the Toronto fan base had differing opinions about the Hall & Oates hit. While some fans liked the song because it was unique compared to other NHL goal songs, others, like Leafs star Auston Matthews, felt that it should be changed.

Before they could hear the new song, Toronto fans had to wait for the first Leafs goal at Scotiabank Arena. In the second period of the season’s opening game against the Canadiens, forward Noah Gregor of the Maple Leafs scored.

It is an entirely different song from the Hall & Oates song, which makes the in-arena experience feel more positive.

Hornby says it doesn’t seem like Toronto will stick with one goal song for the entire campaign. Depending on the opponent and style of play, the Leafs plan to use “three or four” new songs this season; however, “Pursuit of Happiness” is anticipated to be the standard song performed in Toronto.
