Bell: Ravens need John Harbaugh to lead them through heartache.
BOCA RATON, Florida: At the annual media breakfast for AFC coaches on Tuesday morning, it was pretty evident that not a single person in the large room was as passionate about the NFL rulebook as John Harbaugh was.
However, it was doubtful that any of the coaches carried a heavier heart to the NFL meetings.
The coach of the Baltimore Ravens will be in Miami, 50 miles south of here on Saturday to attend Tray Walker’s funeral. Walker passed away last Friday after suffering injuries from being hit by an SUV while riding a motorcycle. Walker was a 23-year-old cornerback who would have been getting ready for his second NFL season.
After breakfast, a reflective Harbaugh told USA TODAY Sports, “You either have hope or you don’t.” He was en route to a meeting. That is the nature of humanity. What more is there? We all have to deal with the same reality. He’s currently sleeping.

Harbaugh has to strike a balance between the kind of real-life tragedy for which no one is fully prepared and his fundamental duty as a football coach.
