ESPN NEWS: A look at Burnley’s transfer dealings so far as January window enters final week

After being promoted back to the Premier League, the Clarets added 15 new players to Turf Moor, including Zeki Amdouni, Luca Koleosho, James Trafford, and Sander Berge.

Thus far in January, there has only been one arrival: David Datro Fofana, who is joining on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

On Wednesday, January 31, when Burnley returns from their winter break with a somewhat difficult journey to the Etihad to face Manchester City, the 21-year-old might make his debut.

The Clarets were lacking in striker options, so manager Vincent Kompany was eager to add further depth to the group that already included Jay Rodriguez, Lyle Foster, and Amdouni.

Although he was included in that picture as well, Michael Obafemi has subsequently secured a loan agreement with Millwall, a Championship team.

There is only one week left until the window closes, so all eyes will be on Burnley to see what they can accomplish in their attempt to avoid relegation.

French defender Maxime Esteve is a target for the Clarets, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Since making his Montpellier debut in 2021, the 21-year-old center back has played in 60 games and earned caps for France’s Under-21 team.

There have also been rumors of an Ajax winger named Carlos Forbs being loaned out.

Other than that, the month has mostly been dominated by departures, mostly of academy graduates and players who were on the outside looking in for Burnley.

Scott Twine was recalled from his stint at Hull City to join Championship rivals Bristol City and subsequently scored on his debut during the 1-1 draw against Watford last weekend.

Twine played regularly for Hull before making the switch to Ashton Gate, making 24 appearances in all competitions.

Tigers boss Liam Rosenior recently confirmed it was Burnley’s decision to recall Twine from the MKM Stadium.

Darko Churlinov, meanwhile, made his return to Schalke on a loan deal until the end of the season. Schalke confirmed the deal to take Churlinov from Burnley also includes a “buy option”.
