Katy Watson, an England youth international, has extended her contract with Barclays Women’s Championship leaders Sunderland.
It has been reported that Watson will remain on a hybrid arrangement until she completes her studies next summer and she will then become a professional player for Sunderland in 2024/2025.
Watson has come through the academy system at Sunderland. The teenager has gone on to make 34 appearances for the Wearside club in the Barclays Women’s Championship while she has scored four goals. Watson has made eight substitute appearances for Sunderland in the league this season as they have risen to the summit.
“I’m over the moon to sign my first professional contract with the Club and I can’t wait to continue my journey and my development here,” Watson said following the signing of her new agreement.
The upcoming match for Sunderland is possibly their biggest of the year. On Sunday, November 5, 2023, the Lady Black Cats play their local rivals, Durham, in the A690 derby. On Derby Day, Watson hopes to do her part for Sunderland.
