Jets lose to the Leafs 4-2, ending their 3-game losing streak before the all-star break.

After the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 on Saturday, Auston Matthews, who leads the NHL in goals scored this season, celebrated a significant accomplishment. He attributed his success to hard work and consistency.

In his 527th career game, Matthews’ game-winning power-play goal in the third period gave him 600 career points, making him the fastest Leaf to do so.

“I’m just trying to stay consistent, trying to work every night,” Matthews stated.

“We didn’t play our best game together tonight, in my opinion, but I did think we played patiently. Just make an effort to persevere, seize the chance to execute a power play, and take it.”

The Leafs’ winning run now stands at three games.

The Leafs (25-14-8) also scored goals through empty-net goals from Simon Benoit, John Tavares, and Ryan Reaves. Each of Morgan Rielly and Mitch Marner provided two assists.

The Jets (30-12-5) got their first goal of the season from defenseman Dylan Samberg, and Mason Appleton added a late goal.

For Winnipeg, which has dropped four of its last six games (2-3-1) after building an eight-game winning streak, Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves.
