Marvin Harrison Jr.'s Heisman Campaign Gains Steam with Three-Touchdown Night vs. Michigan State | Eleven Warriors

In the first half of Ohio State’s 38-3 victory over Michigan State on Saturday in Columbus, wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. strengthened his resume as a Heisman Trophy winner. With seven receptions for 149 yards and a 19-yard touchdown run to close out the game, he further demonstrated his enormous value to Ohio State and starting quarterback Kyle McCord in his first year.

After the game, McCord remarked, “I can’t really quantify how impactful he is to this offence.” In one-on-one matches, he clearly prevails. I think there’s situations where he takes two defenders with him. Someone else is available if they wish to double him. He does an excellent job blocking, in my opinion. He gives the offence so much. It was probably a month ago.

a long time ago, if that is actually the prize given to the best player, he needs to be in the running.”

Harrison Jr. has 12 touchdown catches this season, which ranks him second among all FBS receivers. He has 59 receptions for 1,063 yards.

The entire speech McCord made following the Buckeyes’ 38-3 victory over Michigan State is listed below.

Regarding the challenge of staying focused amidst all the external distractions in the Big Ten:

To be honest, not at all tough. We’ve done an excellent job of isolating all of the noise, in my opinion. Furthermore, I believe that it is meaningless at this point in the season, regardless of what people may be saying or the rankings, because, in the end, we still have a lot of football left, especially in November, when championships are won. Therefore, I believe the team has done a fantastic job, if anything, of blocking out outside noise and practically putting on blinkers.inside.

REGARDING THE IMPACT OF MARVIN HARRISON JR.’S VERSATILITY AS A QUARTERBACK:

“His contribution to this offence is difficult to measure. In one-on-one matches, he clearly prevails. I believe there are instances in which he carries two defenders. Someone else is available if they wish to double him. He does an excellent job blocking, in my opinion. He gives the offence so much. If this is really the award given to the best player, as I believe I stated about a month ago, then he has to be in the running.

REGARDING HIS ENHANCED FOOTWORK AND THE IMPACT OF HIS ANKLE THAT:

Yes, I thought my footwork was much better today. I believe that having a healthy base and proper weight distribution was something we concentrated on throughout the week. Furthermore, I believe that the O-line performed admirably in pass protection today. I don’t believe I ever dropped back or felt pressure in my face today, so I was able to move as freely as I wanted to into the throws. That, in my opinion, is a credit to the boys who front.

MARVIN HARRISON JR. SHOULD YOU TRY NOT TO THROW A BALL AT HIM? Using Ohio State’s offensive weaponry:

“Clearly, it’s A) the play call and B) the defence they employ, in my opinion. However, I don’t believe there is ever a situation where we don’t get along. However, as I previously stated, I believe that occasionally they attempt to double him, which gives other players on the pitch more space. With the weapons we have, I believe I would enjoy any one-on-one offensive matchup.

GETTING BACK TO THE TIGHT END CADE STOVER:

“He just makes a lot of targets and does his routes really well. He pays amazing attention to detail. In addition, he’s a formidable player in the run game, in my opinion. Thus, I believe that his blocking technique, route running style, and overall selflessnessI believe that helps the offence as a whole on the field.

IF THE OFFENCE IN OHIO STATE IS READY TO GO TO THE NEXT STEP:

Ohio State QB Kyle McCord weighs in on Heisman Trophy campaign for Marvin Harrison Jr.

I feel like I’ve been talking about this stuff all year. Just keeping getting better and stronger every week, and now that November has arrived, I believe we need to play our best football yet. Additionally, I believe that the players now understand the coaches’ sense of urgency. As an offensive unit, we were aware that we needed to have a successful week and make progress, and I believe we did, particularly during the first half when we were playing well. Naturally, I would have preferred to have used my possessions in the second half a little bit more effectively, but Ioverall, this is unquestionably a positive step.

ABOUT WHAT GAVE HIM MORE CONSISTENT ABILITY:

Yes, I believe the strategy should come first. I believe that our game plan was very clear. We had a great preparation week, in my opinion, and we knew exactly how we wanted to go after them. I believe that B) the guys in my immediate vicinity performed admirably. The O-line, who I mentioned earlier, I felt played a really good game, particularly in pass protection. All night long, it seemed to me that there was a clean pocket, and the receivers made some excellent contested plays, of course. In addition, I believe that we were extremely effective on third down tonight. I’m not sure the precise numbers are. MeConsider that if you can stay efficient and move the chains at any point during a third-down, the points will come.

ABOUT THE SENSE OF HAVING EVERY OFFENSIVE WEAPON ON THE FIELD AT ONCE:

“I’m pampered. That, I believe, is the best way I can phrase it. Looking around that field, it seems to me that every position is just a dog. I believe that defences have to be selective in how they attempt to stop us. It means strong matchups on the outside if they want to load the box and try to stop [TreVeyon Henderson]. We have a good run box, and Henderson will do his job, if they want to play coverage. That, I believe, is what we did in part tonight. And I believe the only thing left to consider is how we can keep getting better atthat, since I find it frightening when all those guys are out there.

IF HE CONCISELS THAT THIS WAS THE MOST COMPLETE GAME OF THE SEASON IN OHIO STATE:

I firmly believe that. I believe that first half, in particular, was the kind of start we’ve been aiming for the entire season—starting strong, scoring points quickly, and maintaining consistency throughout the whole half. Although they obviously benched a number of their starters early in the second half, I felt that this was a fairly full game. Like I mentioned, I believe that we could have finished a little bit better on those last drives in which I participated, but the defence in particular, in my opinion, deserves special recognition. After giving up three points and seeing the offence pick up steam, I think we’re off to a great start.and simply maintained that momentum. Therefore, I believe that this is one of our more comprehensive games, and the timing couldn’t be better.

MANAGING FOR THE GAME TO DECELERATE FOR HIM:

“The most important thing, in my opinion, is to watch films during the week. When you put in the effort and the time, you can play with confidence, anticipate plays, and play with confidence—all of which are crucial at this level of competition. The second aspect of that, in my opinion, is simply having faith in the guys around you as well as in yourself. It’s encouraging that I think we’re beginning to pick up steam and get things moving. However, I believe that everything begins during the week with the practise reps and the additional film viewing… That, I believe, is primarily what gave me the advantage over my opponents today.
