The 25-year-old is released by the Green Bay Packers immediately following their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With a current record of 3-6, the Green Bay Packers are unlikely to make the playoffs in 2023. Perhaps the final nail in the coffin for a potential postseason run was the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though their removal had certain benefits, there were enough drawbacks to make a release necessary. Less than twenty-four hours after the setback, the Packers did just that.
Innis Gaines.
Within less than a day following their defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Green Bay Packers released defensive back Innis Gaines.
The Green Bay Packers have officially declared S. Innis Gaines free. General Manager Brian Gutekunst made the announcement about the transaction on Monday.
Gaines has been a member of Green Bay’s practice squad and active roster since his initial signing on January 8, 2021. He has made twelve appearances in 12 games with one start since joining the Packers. This season, that equates to four appearances. For the Packers, Gaines has recorded seven special teams tackles and four defense tackles (all solo).
Gaines’ dismissal seems to have been made in order to make place for a new defensive back. Packers grab Seahawks’ Kyu Blu Kelly off waivers, according Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
The Baltimore Ravens selected Kelly in the fifth round of the 2023 draft. He was taken off waivers by the Seahawks after the final cuts in August, and he played 38 snaps on special teams during the first two months or so of his tenure on the team.
