In the AP Poll, UConn men’s basketball is ranked eighth.

After winning the Phil Knight Invitational with ease over Oregon, Alabama, and Iowa State, the UConn men’s basketball team had a fantastic weekend. As a result, the Huskies moved up 12 spots to No. 8 in this week’s AP Poll. Other than No. 5 Purdue, who moved up 19 spots following a strong Phil Knight Legacy Tournament weekend, no other team moved up 10 or more spots.

The Huskies’ current ranking of No. 8 is their highest since they were ranked eighth on January 17, 2012. As of right now, only UConn (8-0) has eight victories in the nation and is the only university with adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency ranked in the top 10.

Big East Freshman of the Week went to rookie big man Donovan Clingan, dethroning teammate Alex Karaban for the first time this season. The Bristol product held his own against some of the best big men in the nation, including Oregon’s N’Faly Dante and ISU’s Osun Osunniyi, averaging 9.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in the PKI. He was named PKI MVP for his first career double-double, a 15-point, 10-rebound effort against the Cyclones in the championship game.

After Karaban won the title for the first two weeks of the season, Clingan is the first player outside of Karaban to win Freshman of the Week in the Big East. Although Clingan won this week’s award over him,
